Georgina Exley retires after two decades of care and consideration

Georgina Exley (centre back in white checkered top) is headed for retirement after years of incredibly inspiring service to children and families.

After nearly 19 years with the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre, Infant Development Consultant Georgina Exley is headed for retirement – but her care and consideration will continue to inspire for many years to come.

As a lifelong learner, educator, mentor and teacher, Georgina always looked to the future. She supported countless practicum students while also working as a catalyst for coaching training within the FVCDC. Her reflections, wisdom and experience consistently brought incredible value to her department, and the entire centre.

Georgina chats with FVCDC CEO Karen Dickenson Smith at her retirement party at the centre’s Abbotsford location on Ventura Ave.

“Georgina has a gift for helping staff build skills that shift how we support families,” says Infant Child Development Department Leader Stacey Barfoot.

“She’s such a champion for recognizing that our role is not to be the experts on a child, but to empower parents to feel confident and capable in their own knowledge and abilities.”

Before joining FVCDC, Georgina spent five years working as a social worker at Xyemeth. After completing her Masters Degree in Adult Learning, she played a pivotal role in developing the FVCDC Enhancing Practice Committee through the lens of creating a culture where staff have space to learn, practice, reflect, and continue growing.

While leaving is bittersweet, Georgina – as she does – continues looking forward.

“As this door closes, I am excited to find out what is behind the next” she says.

“I want to thank everyone for who you are and what you do.”
