Moving to Higher Ground Summer 2009

Learning, stretching and growing - that's what it was all about at the FVCDC's eighth Moving to Higher Ground Therapy Camp and Workshop program. This year the innovative mentorship program saw eight occupational therapists from British Columbia and Alberta meet together at Cultus Lake Community School. With lectures in the most current brain research by Kim Barthel of Labyrinth Journeys and under the direction of Kirstie Glasgow, Director of Occupational Therapy and Yvette Jollet, Director of Physical Therapy, the therapists were challenged to grow in knowledge and skill. They were assisted by eight campers who shared their daily challenges in a Day Camp setting. The children received two therapy sessions a day, complimented by a wide range of fun day camp activities. This year's theme was the 2010 Olympics. The day camp was run by Chris and Sarah, our two summer therapy assistants. Under the direction of these two amazing young people, others were able to volunteer to help create a total growing experience for all involved. Our volunteers included former FVCDC clients, graduates from previous MTHG therapy camps, and students whose future plans include becoming teaching assistants, therapists and doctors. No matter what their role at this incredible experience, all who attended can definitely say that they had the opportunity to Move to Higher Ground!
