Positive Parenting and Behaviour Support Program

FVCDC is providing a support program to families receiving services from Ministry of Children and Familiy Development, Children and Youth with Special Needs.

The program has two components of service. Through an initial intake process and in consultation with the family and their social worker the family will proceed with Triple P Stepping Stones (Positive Parenting Program) or have a behavioural plan developed by a Behaviour Consultant (BC) and supported in the ome with a Behaviour Interventionist (BI).

Triple P Stepping Stones has been developed for parents of children with a developmental disability and is based on proven parenting strategies. Triple P Stepping Stones has been evaluated with families and shown to work effectively with children who have intellectual and physical disabilities and have disruptive behaviour.

If the client is over the age of 12 years or the behavioural issues are more significant the Behaviour Consultant will work with the family to develop a behaviour plan specific to the family and the child's needs. The behaviour plan will reflect the goals identified by the family. The Behaviour Interventionist, under the supervision of the Behavioural Consultant will support the family with implementation of the plan.

The program has a Speech Lanaguage Pathologist and Occupational Therapist available for consultation.
